Divergent Makeup Kit

Hello my lovelies! I would like to post a blog update about the Divergent makeup kit which came out in in February 2014 in anticipation of the Divergent premiere that was in March. Since Insurgent is coming out March 2015, I wanted to post about how much I absolutely love this kit.

This kit comes with 4 mini lip glosses, 3 eye palettes, one face palette, and a dual ended brush (blush brush and tapered blending brush); it also comes with get-the-look cards for each palette. 

First I wanted to talk about the design of the box. It is probably because of the box that this is one of the most coveted makeup items in my collection. The box is huge, and features the iconic Ferris wheel from one of the high points of the movie. It says DIVERGENT along the side where it opens and there is a slit across DIVERGENT in which the box opens. Upon opening the box, there is a black imprint of the Ferris wheel covering the top side of the flap. There is a square in the middle, containing the Get the look cards.

The get the look cards contain 6 looks on 3 cards, one for each faction. I would like to point out that while there are 5 factions, the ones featured in the kit are Abnegation, Erudite, and Dauntless, all of which Tris' aptitude test qualifies her for. While I would have liked to see what the Candor and Amity palettes would I have looked like, it makes sense that these are the 3 factions Tris fits into and AKA what makes her Divergent. Each card contains a Day and Night look for the selected faction. I would like to point out that the Abnegation Night look does require using the bronzer from the face palette as an eyeshadow, suggesting the face colors can also be used on the eyes. They even give an illustration on a drawing of Tris of how the final look would turn out.

Next, I would like to give my opinion on the dual ended brush. One side is for the face, an angled brush for blush, contour, and highlighting. DIVERGENT is printed on the middle of the brush. The other end of the brush tapers on both ends to a fine tip, which makes it a perfect blending brush. 

Next comes the lip glosses. They are styled much like Hourglass lip glosses. They smell slightly of peppermint, and are not very pigmented at all. But they are a nice shine and slight touch of color, perfect for enhancing lip sticks of similar colors. Supreme Ritual is the most nude and neutral color of them all. It is a white touched slightly with pink. It comes off as a lightest of pinks. The next color is Temptation's Choice, which is a orange-toned pink, and the one 'sparkly' color of the bunch. Sparkle doesn't show up on the lips though, just makes it look shiny. Natural Virtue is another pink neutral, but a deeper shade of pink. Fear Not is the darkest color of them all, it is a light version of a fuchsia. 

The 4 palettes, which are the same size, are designed to make the picture of the Ferris wheel. The slight different angle of where each palette is placed makes the design even more desirable. 

The face palette, which is part 1/4 of the Ferris wheel. Obscure Coral is the more pigmented of the two blush colors, and is a color similar to Bella Bamba by Benefit. Misty Rose is much less pigmented, and is a neutral pink. Gleaming Pearl is the white shimmery highlight of the palette and gives a yellow glow. Intelligent bronze is the matte bronzer that is a milk chocolate color.

The second palette, which is part 2/4 of the Ferris wheel and the first eye palette, is the Erudite eye palette. Erudite are smart, and value intelligence over everything. The first color is Humble Sheen, a deep white, pale-skin shade. Each of these shades are incredibly soft. The second color is Peaceful Shimmer, A gold-toned peach shimmer shade. The third shade is Radiant Intiation, a matte neutral brown-toned gray. The fourth color is called Burnt Mahogany, which is a brown-toned purple shade. The final shade is a High Gloss Transforming Eyeshadow in the shade Transform. This is a glitter eyeshadow to overlay on looks, it is transparent when applied dry, and opaque when applied wet. 

Each of the three eye palettes come with a High Gloss Transforming Eyeshadow. Each singular eyeshadow from the three palettes are able to detach from the palette, and you can switch it to whichever palette you choose. There is a metal-colored label DIVERGENT on each of the palettes, and each of the palettes split at the slash through DIVERGENT. They come off and attach with a simple click-lock..

The second eye palette, part 3/4 of the Ferris wheel, is the Dauntless Eye palette. The first shade is called Serene Vanilla, a pretty white shade. The second color is Erudite Sapphire, a nice medium blue shade. The third is called Abnegation Stone, a gray-toned light brown shade. The fourth shade is called Dauntless Ink, a matte black. The Transform shade in this palette is called Diverge, and appears to be a green shimmer shade, but is in fact a black shade with green shimmer. 

The last palette, which completes the Ferris wheel depiction. The first shade is called Altruistic Almond, and is a deep white shade. The next color is Golden Honesty, a light shimmer golden color. The third is called Intrepid Moss, is a shimmer olive-toned green shade. Bold espresso is a chocolate shade. The Transform color in this palette is called Choose, and is a medium white shade of shimmer. 

All of the palettes come with a  mirror :)

New Face Routine!

It's not often that I break out, but sometimes my face demons refuse to leave after being welcomed onto my face for weeks on end.

Tarte Colored Clay Liquid Foundation -Light

This foundation costs almost $40, but wow do I love it! This does absolutely a terrible job at concealing, so make sure you have a good concealer handy, but it evens your skin tone and makes it look nice and smooth :)

Pomegranate Facial Cleansing Wipes

I got them for 4 dollars at Ross ! They are supposed to brighten your face :) they come with 60 wipes and I'm excited to try them out!!!

January 2014 Favorites

It seems like my blog would be a perfect place to discuss my January favorites, at least what I've been using everyday.


Primer. One of the ultimate steps to a face. Since I've run out of my Benefit Porefessional, I've recently been trying the Icing Face Primer in both pink and yellow. The pink has an awful smell but I imagine it goes away after applying foundation. I don't know I haven't asked anyone to smell my face after using. As for the yellow one, I haven't noticed a particular smell, just that it is much more pleasant than the pink one. They retail for I think $8 but I got both for $1.25 each. The only downside is they make your face feel kind of slick, I would let these dry before applying foundation.


Eye Primer. Recently I've been using my NYX Eye Base as well as my Stay Don't Stray by Benefit. My NYX eye primer always seemed to work well for me, but I think by now I am too used to Urban Decay Primer Potions in Sin, Eden, and Original. Recently they've changed Stay Don't Stray to include a doughfoot applicator instead of a pump; I unfortunately own the pump version, which I got in the Benefit Pretty Committee set (along with Bella Bamba, mini High Beam, and Eye Bright pencil). The formula has made the product clumpy/or watery. Rubbed between the fingers makes it work.


Foundation. I realized that my foundation doesn't match my skin tone. Neither does my tinted moisturizer. So I decided to combine the two and that seems to make a nice compromise, when blended A LOT. I use the Neutrogena Skin Clearing Foundation in Nude, and the Wet N' Wild Tinted Moisturizer in Natural.


Concealer. Recently I've been using my NYX Above Average Concealer in Beige. It's alright. It works but beige is too orange for my skin tone.


Blush. Bella Bamba Blush is my life! I've been trying my cream blushes lately; my NYX Cream Rouge blush in Hot Pink went on spotty. My Plum Wine Maybelline Bouncy Blush went on too harsh today. I think I will stick with Bella Bamba at least for a while.


Eyeliners. Stila Smudge Sticks!! I've been given the Stila Artist Signature Set for Christmas, which I don't think a lot of people know about at all. It was a $200 price, for a $600 value. I love it, a lot of people don't think it was a good deal. I'll give an explanation of the kit at the end of the blog post. My favorite smudge sticks are Tetra (shimmer purple) , Moray (olive green), Blue Ribbon (light navy blue), Lionfish (shimmer rich brown) , and Stingray (black with glitter).


Mascara. Bare Escentuals! For Sephora's Cyber Monday Sale, I got the Cyber Monday Bag, and it came with this and the other mascara I'm going to talk about. Bare Escentuals Buxom Mascara in Black Noir is PERFECT for separating! I love it as a first mascara. The second mascara is Lancôme Hypnose Star. I like the volume this mascara gives. If I want to pop a little of fun into my look, I use my Colorful Lashes Mascara my sister gave me from H&M. It's a lilac-silvery-purple color.


Eyeshadow. Victoria's Secret palette my brother got me for Christmas ($32). Fun to play with. The Clinique Party Eyes Palette my grandparents got me for Christmas. There are blues, purple, black, silver, and a copper-gold amongst other shades. The Stila Artist Signature kit came with 12 eyeshadows (yes including kitten) that rival the looks of the Naked palette by Urban Decay. Also my 3 MAC eyeshadows my half-sister Brianna gave me (Amber Lights, Woodwinked, and Humid).


Lips. I swear it's the month for Stila. The Stila Artist Signature Set came with 15 lip glazes. Add that to the 3 I already have, 18 lip glazes! Many many different shades which I love :)




Stila Artist Signature Set. 3 Smudge Crayons, 8 Smudge Sticks, 15 lip glazes, 4 blushes, and 12 eyeshadows. This warrants its own blog post, coming soon :)

Hot Huez Review

Recently I saw that Bunny, or Grav3yardgirl, has reviewed the Hot Huez on her YouTube channel, and I wanted to throw in my own two cents about it, since I had a slightly different experience with it. So before I get to the results of what happened

The Hot Pink color was one of the only ones to show up on my medium brown hair.

The Electric Blue looked like a powder blue in the compact and came off even lighter.

The Neon Green color looked a shade lighter than a lime green color and showed up as a faded version of that.

The Fiery Fuscha color was the only other color to show up with a good amount of pigmentation, although closely resembling the pink color.

The method of application was a doozy. You had to spray your hair damp, slide the color, then seal with a hairspray. I did this tedious process and it did take hours, needless to say. Now I have curly hair, but the product does claim to work on all hair types.

My biggest problem is that the pink one stained my shirt. Now, I probably shouldn't have chosen to wear a partially white shirt, but it stained nevertheless.

That is my problem with this product. It stains. Plus the compact only colors one side of the hair. And you have to lock your hair into the compact. That in itself hurt my hair.

I got this product from Ross for 7 instead of 10 dollars, but I still wouldn't recommend it. Unless your hair is either really light, really short, or really straight.
